An intimate relationship between two people is a precious and intricate thing. I help couples work together to identify the strengths and weaknesses in their relationship in order to develop their treatment goals and plan. Since one often feels particularly vulnerable with one’s partner, I have found that gentleness, balance, compassion, humor, and support are particularly valuable tools in working with couples. I also have training in special techniques, such as Imago Relationship Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, assertiveness training, and sex therapy that may be particularly helpful in couples therapy. I work with heterosexual couples and couples that are gay or lesbian. For more information on techniques used see the additional tools section.

Treatment
Couples’ goals may include practical tools, such as building communication skills or setting clearer boundaries. Couples therapy also often involves identifying and working to change negative patterns that partners may have brought into the relationship from earlier experiences; even more important, is clarifying and building on a couples’ strengths, such as love, commitment, and shared philosophies and interests.
