Post-Trauma
I use gentle, supportive techniques to help survivors of trauma recover equilibrium and reduce negative after effects. I have extensive training and experience in helping people who have experienced all kinds to trauma and stress. Many times people have grown up in family situations that are unsafe in some way or have experienced specific incidents of trauma as a child. Some people have experienced incidents of trauma as adults, or situations where they felt unsafe. Any experience that causes one to feel powerless and lacking control can have detriment after effects, such as anxiety, fear, avoidance, and depression.
In addition to general stress reduction and therapy techniques two techniques that can be particularly helpful in healing from trauma are EMDR and Somatic Experiencing.

EMDR:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses tapping, sounds, or eye movements to stimulate the right and left sides of the brain. This helps the brain to process traumatic experiences and integrate them in a way that reduces negative symptoms and promotes well-being. For more information about EMDR see www. EMDRIA.org
Somatic Experiencing:
Somatic Experiencing is a technique for healing physical and emotional trauma. It is based on the theory that trauma memories are held in our body and locked into the nervous system. Somatic Experiencing uses gentle awareness of physical sensations and emotions to help the body release held tension and heal itself.
