|
Moves and transitions often create particular stresses for people. Individuals or families that move abroad, also face particular problems. While living overseas I provided therapy for expatriate families for a number of years. I am very experienced in all of the problems that moves and transitions may lead to.

Individuals
An individual, whether living alone or as part of a family, may experience many stresses after a move or major transition. Some of these include anxiety, role changes, isolation and loneliness, career problems, culture shock, depression, and loss of self-confidence. Therapy can help to put things in a new perspective and teach life skills to ease the transition.

Couples
Couples that have experienced a move or transition oten experience increased stress. This may be caused by changes in roles and schedules, difficulties adjusting to new work and social situations, children's adjustment problems, or communication problems. Couples that move overseas may experience additional problems related to things such as culture shock, distance from family and friends, or one partner traveling a lot. Marital difficulties can compound themselves through increased arguing, emotional distancing, and even infidelity. Therapy can help to diffuse stresses that might lead to larger problems and repair damage from problems that do occur.
